just a quick update on some I'M FINE THANKS news.

AWARDS:

Best Graduate Film - Ottawa International Animation Festival 2011

Best Graduate Film - Expotoons 2011

Best Animation - Darklight Film Festival 2011

Passion Prize - RCA 2011.

The film has also been shortlisted for a British Animation Award in the Best Student Film category and will tour the UK in 2012 as part of the BAA Public Choice Award.

a number of people have been in touch asking if any DVDs are available to buy.

i hadn't planned on it but if there's enough interest in this then it's definitely something i'll do.

if i'm going to sell DVDs at all i would like to package and print it nicely. i always appreciate good packaging! alternatively i could make a download available to buy online.

I'M FINE THANKS premiered last week at the Ottawa International Animation Festival.

incredibly, it won the Best Graduate Film. i could not have hoped for a better start for the film.

i have to say a massive thanks to louise bagnall, marah curran, rachel fuery, celine halpin, eimhin mc namara, lisa powell, claudio salas & luiz lafayette stockler. all of these people did a great job in helping me finish the film and get it out to the festival on time.

also big thanks to joe tate for his sound design and to paul thomas for his voice performance.

ill post up any more news/festival info as it comes.

right now i'm writing my next short at the RCA.

i'm delighted to say last night i was awarded 2nd place in the prestigious MAN group drawing prize at the RCA. here's one of my drawings which is currently on exhibit at the show.

hello. last night was the opening of the RCA WIP show.

i'm exhibiting some early character designs for my film.

ive been busy the past few weeks/months. busy busy. i moved home and have started a new animation job which is going well. lots of traveling now but it means i get a designated 3 hours of drawing/reading time everyday. my evenings were spent doing some freelance animation with the great Dave Prosser on his graduate film at the RCA. i'm delighted to have been able to work with Dave. see his stuff here: http://www.daveprosser.co.uk/

great news this week. ive been accepted to the 2010 berlinale talent campus. that means in februrary i will be attending 6 days of workshops, lectures and other such things with filmmakers, scriptwriters, editors, etc etc from all over the world.
as if that wasnt enough ill be attending the berlinale film festival too!

i'm delighted to say that one of my favourite sites Motionographer

has featured My Day in their student feed. i'm really happy as i use this site a lot!

also last weekend i attended the WCC Young Filmmakers Bursary Award ceremony.

i was delighted to accept the award and it was great to see the other winning films.

they also announced on the night that i won the Artlinks! Film Bursary 2009.

i was so happy my films were recieved so well. amazing!

lastly, my graduate film On the Quiet, has been selected for the 2009 Bradford Animation Festival. it will be screening in the student competition in november.

RTS & SMEDIAAS WIN!

Last Tuesday I attended the RTS student awards ceremony in RTE.
It was a fun night and great to see all the other winning films.

Two days later myself and gang from college went to the lovely Mansion House in Dublin
for the 2009 3 Student Media Awards in which I was a finalist for "Short Animation of the Year". It was very fancy indeed and to make the night even better... I WON!!

It's very strange to be winning awards almost a year after My Day was completed but im thrilled nonetheless!

all of last week was spent animating and shooting the skies for my film on the quiet.

there was 32 skies in total.

despite being covered in charcoal for the whole week it was quite thereputic work!

My 3rd year film My Day is the winner in the Undergraduate Animation category of the Republic of Ireland Royal Television Society Student Awards 2008.

Not only that but this win means that My Day will now go forward as Ireland's nomination in the Undergraduate Animation category in Royal Television Society Student Awards to be held in London in May. So fingers crossed it'll get through!!

Here's what the Jury said:

"A very impressive production showing excellent animation potential.
Combining a socially powerful presentation along with excellent creative skills in the world of animation, the overall impact of the film lies in the original idea, content and presentation.
Magnifying the size of the image to match the size of the emotional pain and threatening scenes was particularly impressive. The use of visual space within the film frame was very effective."

I just got back home from this years Galway Film Fleadh.
My film 'My Day' won 2nd place in the 'Best Irish Short'
competition. I was really surprised and delighted with the win,
I think its only starting to sink in now!!
